![]() ![]() Monkey.: To claim someone is "impolite" just because they don't go out of their way to bring something back in what someone else deems "appropriate" time is what I would call impolite. What's a couple weeks? Surely there's plenty of other things any of us can read in the meantime. It's presumptuous to make such accusations about "thoughtfulness" or the like. You don't know if they work an exhausting job 60 hours a week and only get to read on the weekends, or checked out 5 books and that was the last one read (not to mention the excess of dropping off individually finished books), etc. To claim someone is "impolite" just because they don't go out of their way to bring something back in what someone else deems "appropriate" time is what I would call impolite. I don't know, to me it seems rather uppity to think people ought to be making special trips to drop things back off just because someone else wants it too. I never check out merely a single book, that'd be a waste of a trip, and unless it was right next door I'd never make all kinds of repeat trips to drop off individual books as I finish them. Going to the library takes several hours in total for me, so I go every few weeks when thing are due. Just as with everything else, some library patrons are thoughtful and polite, and some are not. I'm not a particularly fast reader, either, and I can read only so much nonfiction in a reading chunk, need time to absorb what I've read before I move on. Here, the checkout time is two weeks, and for some nonfiction, large, dense books, I need more time than that. Most of the digital books I check out cannot be returned early, but when they can, I return them as soon as I am finished with them.Ī 200 page book that isn't fact dense would be a pretty quick read for most of us who frequent LT, but some people are slow readers and don't have much reading time, so the combination could mean that it would really take someone 3 weeks to read a book. I don't really care for the physical library here. However, I have not checked a physical book from the library here in ages. It's a kindness for anyone waiting for the book.
